Service men and women - past and present

11th November 2008

The Royal Army Service Corps, Royal Corps of Transport Association needs you!

In the light of the 90th anniversary of WW1, it becomes impoprtant to not just remember those who have fought and died in the service of thier country, but to also remember the service men and women who experience the very same wartime traumas and have to adjust back into civilization.

In common with many regimental and corps organisations in small towns, the North Devon branch is having difficulty in sustaining its numbers and attracting new members."The branch provides a variety of activities, including lunches, trips out, barbeques and visits with other service associations.

Whatever the occasion it is a meeting of like-minded people and their families, whose intention is to enjoy ourselves and support good causes," said chairman Robin Croslegh."We also give support to members who are sick or in need, backed by a well endowed benevolent fund administered by the headquarters of the association. We provide assistance for our members, whatever the need. There is also a wealth of local knowledge at members' fingertips that can help former servicemen arriving in the area."

"Our message is that if we do not have continued support now, there will be nothing to support the problems of the future. As Remembrance Sunday approaches it is important to remember that in the future there will be a new generation of combat-affected servicemen and women who will need the comfort of comradeship in the future as did the soldiers of the past."

Anyone who has a link with the Royal Army Service Corps, the Royal Corps of Transport or the Royal Logistic Corps is invited to contact Robin Croslegh on (01237) 431836 or Bob Nichol on (01237) 476280, Steart Farm Horns X, Bideford EX39 5DW or r.croslegh@btconnect.com.
