Bombed Lancer soldier meets Queen
16th October 2007
A soldier from Cornwall, who was seriously injured in a bomb blast in Iraq, has met the Queen at a special reception in St James's Palace.
Sgt James Jenkin, from Truro, was invited to the royal celebrations as Her Majesty marks 60 years as Colonel in Chief of the Queen's Royal Lancers.
Sgt Jenkin suffered brain damage, was left deaf in one ear and nearly lost his left eye after the blast in April.
He was one of several members of the Lancers who went to the event.
Two soldiers from the regiment were killed in the Iraqi attack earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Sgt Jenkin left hospital two months ago.
He is now based at Catterick in North Yorkshire and is back at work, although he has a desk job now rather than working with vehicles, which is what he was trained to do.
